With Wimbledon on our minds, we found some nice research at Yell.com this week we thought we’d share with you. Tennis related searches, like tennis courts, have seen an amazing 86% increase above average in the first week of the tournament while last year the whole tournament created a 53% increase. Not the same can be said about the footy though, searches on football training, coaching and clubs have gone up by just 2% on average during Euro 2008! Wimbledon clearly inspires us to get up and on the courts, and significantly more than any other sport! So do you guys think this is down to patriotism and love for a great British tradition, or are Brits generally getting more into tennis than other sports? |

I'd say it is just to do with the fact we don't care about tennis for 11 months in the year. Football is widely loved all through the year but more so during our domestic season rather than during a major tournament that England aren't in. |

Good point Smithy. Football gets so much coverage all year round compared to tennis. So the peak in tennis searches on Yell.com around Wimbledon may be for the reason you suggest. Let’s hope it encourages a few people to keep up the interest beyond the summer though. Enjoy the rest of Wimbledon! |

I think that Andy Murray might actually be the breakthrough tennis needs. If we finally have a winner instead of a so called 'lovable loser' then youngsters might actually get into it. The winner takes it all so said some singer once upon a time - and it is winners that inspire - not losers. |
